Spring crew celebrates Earth Day

Our wonderful youth crew decided to celebrate Earth Day by pulling trash out of the Arkansas River close to our garden.

Way to be good neighbors, guys!

Legacy GardenWorks Receives Two Grants This Month

We are very pleased and honored to announce that Legacy GardenWorks has received grant awards from 2 wonderful foundations! The Wichita Community Foundation has given us funds through the Victor Murdock Fund which will be used to purchase tools, a greenhouse, and a much-needed tool shed.

The Kansas Health Founation has awarded us a Recognition Grant, which will fund new programs to reach our community with garden and cooking education programs.

2014Harvest PartyWe would love to see you there! No reservations needed; just drop by and enjoy fabulous fall activities and good food with friends.

The Pizza Theory

It’s a well-known fact that urban youth who may turn up their noses at every vegetable offered to them, even the ones they grew themselves, will react very differently when presented with those same vegetables on a pizza.

This, in a nutshell, is The Pizza Theory, coined by a group of us local food enthusiasts who spend our time thinking about how to make fresh, local food more accessible.

So, it is with great joy that I present to you the Legacy GardenWorks wood-fired pizza oven, constructed this summer by our own Jesse Parker and Mike Strong.

We got the opportunity to test the Pizza Theory at crew last week, making dough together and stacking on the toppings of pesto, tomatoes, and cheese.

Our fire-building was not flawless. It had rained the night before and our wood was wet, but we were persistent and our pizzas prevailed!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA We look forward to many more outdoor cooking adventures with our new oven!

Thank you to everyone who helped, and be sure to come try out our pizza sometime soon!

Tomato Time!

The tomatoes are ripe and ready! We also have plenty of green beans, pesto, and smiling faces too. Come to the produce stand, 945 S Wichita on Saturdays, from 10am to noon.
